Key Stage 4


Year 10 and 11 students will take compulsory subjects (core subjects) and optional subjects. Students will complete their GCSE 's following the 9-1 system.

English GCSE

From year 10 students will complete the OCR English Language GCSE.

By the end of the course they will have a GCSE in English Langauge.

This course combines English literature and language

Functional English 

From year 10 students will have an opportunity to complete the OCR Functional English course at either level 1 or 2.

By the end of the course they will have a Functional English qualification, which is equivalent to half a GCSE at either level 1 or 2.

The course encourages students to apply their knowledge and skill to real life situations.

Science GCSE

From year 10 students will have the opportunity to complete the Cambridge Nationals in Science at either level 1 or 2.

By the end of the course they will have a GCSE in science.

The course is heavily coursework based and covers Physics, Chemistry and Biology. There are many opportunities for students to plan and carryout experiments.

Business Studies

From year 10 students will have the opportunity to complete a GCSE in Business Studies at either level 1 or 2.

By the end of the course they will have a GCSE in Business Studies .

This course is heavily problem-solving based in order to meet demands form employers. Employers are looking for people who can think logically to solve problems in order to keep the business running.

Spanish GCSE

From year 10 students will have an opportunity to complete a GCSE in Spanish at either level 1 or 2.

By the end of the course they will have a GCSE in French.

This course is very useful for CV's and (with continued use) could lead to students being able to work in French speaking countries.

From year 10 students will have an opportunity to complete the OCR Functional ICT course at either level 1 or 2.

By the end of the course they will have a Functional ICT qualification, which is equivalent to half a GCSE at either level 1 or 2.

Child Development

From year 10 students will have the opportunity to complete a GCSE in Child Development at either level 1 or 2.

By the end of the course they will have a GCSE in Child Development.

This course is very useful for students considering a career in the care industry. The course has a large coursework element to it including a child study and practical tasks.

From year 10 students will have the opportunity to complete the Cambridge Nationals in ICT at either level 1 or 2. By the end of the course they will have a GCSE in ICT.

ART GCSE

From year 10 students will have an opportunity to complete a GCSE in Art at either level 1 or 2.

By the end of the course they will have a GCSE in Art.

This course is very useful for creative students. Qualifications in a creative subject aremore in demand. This is due to the increase in technological capabilities. Companies are looking for people who can market their product in the latest creative way and this subject is designed to equip students with necessary skill to carry out these tasks.

Revision sessions

These sessions are designed for year 11 students who need extra help in preparation for their GCSE's; are behind on work, or started later in the year - so have not had the opportunity to complete all their coursework.
